34th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show

Hey everyone! The 34th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is here on the Outer Banks and going on through the 24th of February. This exhibition has free admission and will be on display at the Ghost Fleet Gallery in Nags Head located at 210 East Driftwood Street. You will find a beautiful array of original local fine art including all from paintings to sculptures and everything in-between. It is an event that all art lovers will enjoy!

Just as a little background about Frank Stick, he was one of the first men to foresee the Outer Banks as being a vacation destination. So much so, that he began painting hundreds of gorgeous scenes you can find here on the Outer Banks. He began by painting predominately hunting and fishing scenes to show the great potential for outdoor adventure on the Outer Banks. He went on to embrace all of the beauty that this area has to offer and put it on canvas as some of the most collectable Outer Banks Art available. This is a great event to attend while you are here enjoying your Outer Banks Vacation Rental.

In 1920, Stick visited the Outer Banks of North Carolina on a surf fishing expedition, and saw the perfection that we all see today, whether you live here or are on vacation. He instantly became captivated with the Outer Banks and worked hard establishing the Cape Hatteras National Seashore as the United States’ first national seashore. This was all thanks to Frank Stick’s efforts. We here at Stan White Realty & Construction hope all the art lovers visiting the Outer Banks can make it out to this incredible art exhibition.

Soaring 100

Fall is a great time to visit the Outer Banks. This October, bring the whole family for Soaring 100, a fun-filled weekend celebrating the history of flight. The event will mark the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ record 9 minute, 45 second glider flight. Soaring 100 will be held October 21-24th at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills and Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head. The First Flight Foundation (previously known as the First Flight Centennial Foundation) and a coalition of aviation groups are the backbone behind the event. You and your family will be able to enjoy a sailplane fly-in, vintage and modern glider displays, educational and entertaining symposiums, and special demonstrations and activities planned at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. At Jockey’s Ridge, three teams of aviation enthusiasts from Kansas, Ohio, and Virginia will attempt to launch replicas of the 1911 glider. Receptions, along with a gala banquet and dance, are also planned.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial is one of the area’s most popular attractions, where visitors can learn about the history of flight both indoors and out. The aircraft replicas and paintings are a must-see. You may remember the six-day event that took place in 2003 celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first powered flight. On the last day of the event, over 34,000 people attended, including former president George W. Bush.

Soaring 100 is going to be full of smiling faces and good times. Now is the time to start planning a trip for you and your family to enjoy a weekend of fun here on the Outer Banks.
